What more can be said about The French Laundry, possibly the most-praised restaurant in America? Rather than offer additional effusive commentary about its culinary significance, we thought we would provide perhaps more helpful information, particularly as it relates to time. Time is certainly of the essence should one have French Laundry dining aspirations. It takes time (i.e., four full hours) to experience the perfectly choreographed nine-course prix-fixe meal. And it takes time to secure the privilege of dining here in the first place. To be clear, this 16-table establishment offers reservations exactly 60 days in advance with phone lines opening at 10 A.M. PST, and is typically “fully committed” some 20 minutes later. Lunch is a more accessible alternative (Friday through Sunday only) as are Chef Thomas Keller’s other yummy Yountville establishments: Bouchon (6534 Washington Street, 707.944.8037) and Ad hoc, 6476 Washington, 707.944.2487.
