Serving inventive new American fare at fair prices, Range is right at home amidst the exciting Mission District restaurant scene. Industry veterans Phil and Cameron West have created a neighborhood place with an urbane sensibility. The pulsating crowd can be a bit distracting, but once your meal arrives, all of your senses will be fully engaged by the food. Memorable dishes include the marinated leeks with poached egg (we’re seeing the soft-cooked egg turn up on menus of every stripe and hue), gruyere cheese, and breadcrumbs, and the roasted chicken served with sausage, radicchio, and bread salad. While the menu may change daily, the food is consistently excellent. Parking in this neighborhood is nearly impossible, but Range’s wallet-friendly prices make it easy to splurge on a nearby parking garage or taxi cab ride.
